Amanda Monthei: Westside Wildfires - Preparing for a Future of Fire in the Cascades

  • Lummi Island Grange 2215 North Nugent Road Lummi Island, WA, 98262 (map)
Amanda Monthei

Meet Amanda Monthei, host of the podcast, Life With Fire, who will share her experiences as a member of a hotshot crew fighting fire in the Northwest. She’ll also talk about our region’s rapidly changing conditions caused by climate change and fuel loading and what we can do to prepare for a future with fire in the Pacific Northwest.

Amanda Monthei is a writer, podcast producer, and former wildland firefighter who lives in Bellingham, WA. Since leaving fire in 2019, much of her writing and creative work has centered on exploring our relationship with wildfire in the West, which ultimately led to the creation of her podcast, Life with Fire. She has written for NBC News, the Washington Post, Outside, The Atlantic, and Patagonia. When she’s not writing, talking, and thinking about wildfire, she can most likely be found at Mt. Baker Ski Area or waist deep in a glacial river.

You can also attend via Zoom by registering here.

This event is made possible by generous support from Lummi Island Caramels.
