Aiston Preserve Tree Planting: Saturday

  • Aiston Preserve 1100 Beach Avenue Lummi Island, WA (map)

The Lummi Island Heritage Trust has spent the last several years working to reclaim a former gravel mine on the southeast side of Lummi Island. We just completed work to restore the shoreline and improve forage fish habitat for salmon. Now we are preparing to plant a forest, and we’re looking for volunteers!

On March 18 and 19, we’re planning to plant 800 trees and shrubs! It’s a big step in restoring the native forest that once flourished there, and an important part of helping the natural systems to recover. Come and see what we’ve done and help us create a majestic carbon-sequestering legacy in what could have been a barren gravel mine.

When: Saturday, March 18, and Sunday, March 19, from 9:30am-3:30pm. Come when you can, stay as long as you’re able to.

Where: Aiston Preserve (follow Beach Avenue to its southern terminus, or use Google Maps to route to 1100 Smugglers Cove).

What to Bring: If you have them, bring work gloves, shovels, and buckets. Any extra supplies are always appreciated. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Dress for the weather.

If you have any questions, please call 360-758-7997 or reach out to abby@liht.org. We hope to see you at the planting!
