Our Staff

Susan Hutton
  • Susan first started coming to Lummi Island in 1995 and has hoped to live here ever since. She and her husband raised two kids in Ann Arbor, Michigan, before they moved here permanently in 2020. Susan was a writer and editor at the University of Michigan, served on Ann Arbor’s Environmental Commission, and was a technical advisor to Ann Arbor’s plan to achieve community-wide carbon neutrality. She is also a poet who has published a book, essays, poems, and reviews. She is thrilled to finally live on Lummi Island and is grateful to get to spend so much of her time protecting it.

Bremyhr MacLaren
  • My husband and I have lived on Lummi Island for over a decade, and we are grateful everyday for the quiet beauty around us. I have worked for LIHT for almost as long, and it inspires the same feeling of gratitude to be part of a wonderful community.

Kendra Schmeideskamp
  • After a childhood in Michigan mostly spent sitting in trees, walking through fields, and wading in wetlands, Kendra earned her B.S. in Natural Resources Policy from the University of Michigan and her M.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont in 2004. She previously worked for LIHT from 2014-15. Prior to that, she was Stewardship Coordinator for a land trust based in Seattle, where she focused on land management and ecological restoration projects. She is an avid gardener who loves to learn (and talk!) about plants, soil, and how gardens can benefit wildlife and people.

Jamie Hedrick
  • Jamie comes to us from Western North Carolina where he grew up on a working farm and went on to attend Appalachian State University, studying environmental policy analysis. He finds particular interest in studying agriculture, landscape histories, community resilience, and human geography. In his free time Jamie enjoys traveling to new places, exploring the natural world, cooking, and many forms of art. He is excited to have joined LIHT and looks forward to engaging with the tight community on Lummi Island while preserving the island’s character for generations to come!
