There's No Room for Scotch broom on Lummi Island!

Scotch broom

The Lummi Island Heritage Trust, Whatcom County Fire District #11, and Whatcom County hope you will help to remove Scotch broom from Lummi Island. Scotch broom is an extremely flammable invasive shrub that has proliferated on Lummi Island. It damages soil, crowds out native plants, reduces wildlife habitat, and is toxic to humans, horses, and livestock. Go here to identify Scotch broom, and here to learn how to stop it.

Let’s work to protect each other and our community! Let’s remove Scotch broom and replace it with fire-resistant native plants and flowers that support our bees and pollinators. The Heritage Trust can help! Join us for a Scotch broom removal workparty at the corner of Legoe Bay and Tuttle Lane. Bring your work gloves and a water bottle. Please RSVP to stewardship@liht.org if you can help.
