LIHT Annual Meeting w/Keynote Lynda V. Mapes

Please join us for our Annual Meeting as we share our 2025 summary. We are excited to host this year’s keynote speaker, Lynda V. Mapes. A Seattle-based journalist and nature writer, Mapes is the author of six books exploring the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest. She has been awarded the Washington State Book Award, the National Outdoor Book Award, and twice been honored with the international Kavli Gold Award for Science Writing by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, one of the world’s most prestigious science writing awards. Lynda Mapes was in 2025 named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in local reporting with a team of journalists at the Seattle Times, where she specialized for 27 years in covering environmental news, nature and Native cultures and governments.  Here latest book The Trees are Speaking covers environmental and Indigenous issues for the Seattle Times. She is author of six books, including most recently Orca: Shared Waters, Shared Home, winner of the 2021 National Outdoor Book Award and the 2021 Washington State Book Award for nonfiction. Her journalism has earned numerous prestigious awards, including the international 2019 and 2012 Kavli gold award for science journalism from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is also an associate of the Harvard Forest of Harvard University, in Petersham, MA.
