Mushroom Foray

Grab your walking shoes and join us for a Mushroom Foray—a chance to slow down, look closely, and discover the fascinating fungi that pop up in our island forests. Whether you’re a seasoned mushroom enthusiast or simply curious about what’s growing beneath your feet, come explore, learn, and enjoy a little woodland magic.

Parking: In the Meadow adjacent to the Resource Center.

Arrival Time: We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes prior to start to sign in and complete registration.

Accessibility: One all-terrain walker is available upon request. Feel free to bring your own mobility aids.

Weather and Gear:This event will take place Rain or Shine! Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended. Participants are welcome to bring a cutting tool, small basket, or paper bag for collecting samples.

Event Schedule:

9:15-9:30am: Sign ins

9:30-9:45am: Gather for introductions and a Land Acknowledgment.

Small groups will then organically travel to each of the four preserves led by an LIHT volunteer and a mushroom identifier.

9:45am-11:30am: Forage for samples, each group in one of our four preserves.

11:30am-12:30pm: Return to the Otto Preserve, samples to be identified and laid out on tables for display in the meadow. Light refreshments will be served.
