Action at the Aiston Preserve

As we prepare for restoration at the Aiston Preserve, one of our tasks is to remove the old mining equipment and debris. Wires, cables, old tires, scrap metal, buildings and more have been removed, demolished, or recycled to the best of our abilities, but there is still more work to do. In early January we were finally able to get rid of an old explosives container that had been resting near the top of the mining benches. Working with McCallum Rock, they prepared the trailer to be road-ready and on a quiet sunny morning barged the container off Lummi Island.

It is great to see progress happing at the Aiston Preserve, even if it is just watching something go. Every step takes us closer and closer to restoring this amazing property and making it safe for the public. We will continue to remove invasive tansy ragwort. We'll keep collecting large woody debris to be used in the reclamation. But most importantly, we will continue to keep you in the loop as things progress and change at the Aiston Preserve.
