Marine Debris Prevention and Education

Marine debris negatively impacts our local waterways, salmon, orca and other marine life. Research has shown that the best place to make a difference in the amount of marine debris in the sea is to keep it out of the water in the first place. A piece of trash anywhere on the island is potential marine debris.

We need your help to record the debris picked up. Clean Swell is a free, easy to use app for recording where and what kind of debris you pick up. Participating is simple:

  1. Download the Clean Swell app onto a smart phone or tablet from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

  2. After you log in, click “Start a new cleanup”. Enter the number of people in your group. Under group name, enter LI Heritage Trust.

  3. Grab your bucket or trash bag and hit the beach or road of your choice. Have one of your group members use the Clean Swell App to log each item as you pick it up.

  4. Submit your cleanup data to the international database.

  5. Share your individual results with LIHT via e-mail outreach@liht.org.
