Home Composting Expo

Learn how to compost your food and yard waste and make your own nutrient-rich, water-saving soil amendments!

Are you tired of buying bags of expensive soil amendments and lugging them home? Do you currently put your food waste in the garbage, but wish there was a better way? Have you considered composting, but are concerned about pests? Come to this free event and learn some options for composting at home, and pick the one that is the best for you. Nancy Neil, a vermiculturist with years of experience, will demonstrate how to set up and manage a worm bin. We’ll look at the new composting system at Beach School and have presentations by islanders of other methods for dealing with food waste.

The event will also have a Buy Nothing Swap. Please bring a gently loved item if you would like to participate.

Brought to you by Beach School, Resilient Lummi, Garden of the Salish Sea Curriculum/Pacific Shellfish Institute and Lummi Island Heritage Trust. Support is provided by a Waste Reduction and Recycling Education grant and a Waste Not Washington grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
