and shorelines forever.

_Campaign to Protect the Otto Preserve Wetland
Together we have protected 843 acres
Today we have an opportunity to protect 10 more...
The Campaign to Protect the Otto Preserve Wetland was launched in December 2011. As the New Year begins, the Trust is working hard to raise the $150,000 necessary to purchase and protect ten acres of prime wetland and forest habitat adjacent to the Otto Preserve. With your help we can protect the entire northern edge of one of the largest wetland complexes on Lummi Island, expand the Otto Preserve to 104 acres, and extend the preserve's walking trails. But, we still need to raise $25,000 by March 31, 2012 to reach the goal. If the Trust fails to raise the necessary funds, a road will be installed, the land will be developed, critical wetland resources will be damaged, and pristine native plant and wildlife will be spoiled.

Owl Prowl
It’s been a busy, beautiful fall this year for the Heritage Trust. Listen closely; you can hear the owls calling in the dark woods. Over 30 islanders of all ages joined expert birder Victor Burgett on an Owl Prowl at the Otto Preserve last month.Participants learned to identify the calls of Saw-Whet, Pygmy, Barred, Screech, Great-Horned, Long-Eared and Barn owls. A Barred owl even flew into view and called to the lucky owl prowlers!
